I had 5 days to make this video for ABC as my first project. They gave me some un-textured, pre-modeled assets and some textures and said go to work to see what I would come up with. The dynamics simulation was too tough for the computer I was on to calculate with all the complex geometry so I set up the dynamics on simple collision volumes and that worked pretty well. All the shakiness for the camera and the extra dust and debris were done in post with Particle Illusion and After FX in about 1 extra day.
The main goal was to show different types of collapses and how survivors could be safe under a void created during the collapse. The above video is a 'V-Shape' collapse. The video below is the 'Lean-to' collapse without any of the dust, debris and FX.
I've also done a few other animations for ABC such as melanoma cells spreading through the veins from the arm and into the torso, a tree growing and its leaves changing colors as well as many others for shows like ABC World News, Special Events, and Good Morning America.
